Note from Helen:
My apologies to all for the lack of communication. With all the changes that we learned about at the International Convention, the program for this event needs a lot more work than usual. In addition, a location at a camp was problematic because of handicap accessibility and dates having already been booked.
We will be holding the event June 5-7 at NAU. I am in the process of negotiating the price, which will be more than the usual camp cost. However, the region will absorb the difference and, as is customary, advisors will attend without paying a registration fee.
I know that you need to get your paperwork started. I am trying to get to many of these details but, like you all, my semester is ending, and on top of that my VPAA (my immediate supervisor) was named interim president at a sister campus just last Thursday. That "small" announcement has set up an onslaught of unexpected meetings and, as a division chair, I end up going to most of them.
I am working on getting the packet online by the end of this week. However, the registration fee is firm at $80. We will most likely start at lunch or early afternoon to allow for travel on Friday, June 5. Rooms will be available on Saturday night but we may not provide a breakfast on Sunday. (I am still negotiating all of this.) You will likely have to bring sleeping bags and/or bedding and towels etc. (Just as if we were camping.) The cost presented to me is likely to be in the $120 range per person without considering the cost for advisors and regional board members so I am trying to save every possible penny.
We are working on the online registration packet.
Thank you for your patience.
NEW INFORMATION from 5/27/09:
Hello Arizona Region of Phi Theta Kappa,
I am the Vice President of Leadership of the Alpha Beta Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Our chapter is currently working on planning the 2009 AZ Regional Leadership Institute: Honors In Action at Northern Arizona University. Here is a quick breakdown of the event. Our Institute is to mimic the Honors In Action Academy at International Convention. So, our host chapters are researching a problem in the community (Issue 2: Fine Arts Graffiti). Our regional officers will be educating everyone about the problem in the scholarship part of the session. Then, as a region we will go out and perform the service. After that, we will be having a reflection session for strengthening of Honors In Action.
I have a question for the entire Arizona Region: Of those who went to Honors In Action Academy, who will be willing to hold one reflection session after the service is performed? We will need 4 different chapters to participate. One advisor and one officer or member are encouraged to lead the reflection session breakout groups.
Let me remind you that this is a wonderful opportunity toward reaching 5-Star status as a chapter under the leadership hallmark. Since both of our Leadership Camp and Honors In Action Institute were combined, this may be the only time that we as a region will get together other than our Regional Convention.
Please let me know as soon as possible seeing that this event is less than two weeks away,
Marissa Casillas
